Diving Centres in Bali

Bali is not only an island but also a province in Indonesia which includes the southerly islands of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. It lies between Java and Lombok.
In many places in Bali you can dive without a guide. Talking with the people at dive shops or looking at dive guide books will give more than enough information. However, some places with strong currents are recommended only with a guide who knows the area.
March through to October is the dry season with some of the best diving in Bali. Heavy rainfall in December and January can ruin visibility.
Bali has a hyperbaric chamber at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar.
Bali's currency is the Indonesian Rupiah. You can exchange all major currencies in the south but it is not as easy to do so elsewhere in Bali. Banks and money-changers will only accept post-1997 US$ bills in pristine condition. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in south Bali and in all up-market hotels and shops. Some places take American Express. You may be charged an extra 3% when using a credit card.

"Excellent service right through from the initial enquiry to the diving itself. They also organised exactly the type of accommodation we wanted. Small groups of divers, in fact on one day we were the only divers at the particular dive site which we'd asked for. This was not a problem for them. "We stayed at Paradise Palm Beach Bungalows in Tulamben and dived with the attached dive shop, Dive Paradise Tulamben. the resort is very pleasant, our bungalow was nice and clean and just a stone's throw from the beach. I remember that it looked like a piece of heaven after the long trip from Europe. The staff are nice and good humored: their restaurant is a nice place to stay between dives. Our dive guide, Gusti, was really ok. If interested in booking there, the manager Emiko can work up a package with dives and accommodation for a good rate. Rates are a good deal anyway: 28 US$ for a double room with breakfast, meals are very cheap like everywhere else in Bali. Dives rate are 40 US$ for two dives, including guide, tanks, weights and porters to the dive site. You can dive on your own too: 15 US$ for the first tank and 5 US$ each tank further. "

"Brand new good equipment, friendly and very helpful staff (the owners as well as the divemasters). They take you out on small groups to very rich unspoiled dive sites. They organise a local meal on the boat and are very aware of pollution. Also in for a good laugh. They make you feel very welcome in the diveshop and on the island.
They also operate good accommodation with the sweet name: secret garden; which is true.
Their diveshop does treat you very personally. As a dive instructor I really loved that. Good for the experienced divers, but also very personal to the non experienced (and the non experienced become experienced very soon !)
When I am back in Indonesia, I will definitely visit them again! "

"I dove with World Diving on the island of Nusa Lembongan. The shop is well-run, with friendly staff. I particularly enjoyed diving with Komang, one of the DMs.
Most of the dives off Nusa Lembongan and the neighbouring islands are drift dives. The currents can be fierce at times. World Diving seemed to have a good stance on "safety first" while listening to what their customers want.
The one knock on the place is that it can be hard to get the DM to take you on three dives in a day if that's what you want. World Diving uses outrigger boats to get to the dive sites, and this normally takes an hour or so because the boats are pretty slow."

"I had a great experience with Christine, one of the owners of this dive shop and her helpful, friendly local Balinese staff. I was on a limited schedule and budget and Christine was very helpful and patient in planning dives that would work within those constraints. One of my favorite dives in Bali was an early morning dive I did with Amed Scuba at the Liberty. We were the first ones in the water and were able to see an enormous amount. Equipment, concern for safety, and thorough knowledge of marine life were all top-notch."

We booked a trip here for one week, to visit different divesites around bali and we also visited temples, waterpalaces etc. The divecenter is led by a german biologist (Christine Sbick) who speaks english very well. euro each for the week, including everything (hotel, equipment, dives, everything) except dinner. Christine takes care of you extremely well. She even put fruits, candybars, tea and coffee in our room! We had a very good time with her.
We stayed at different accommodations, because it was a roundtrip. The accommodations were very good. Also you can rent a room at Amed Scuba Dive Centre itself. Very good value for money. "

"In July this year I took my first overseas trip .. destination Bali. My
ex-partner recommended that we take a diving experience with Nyoman who runs Amed Scuba Diving Center. I had never dived before and was extremely anxious. "I have just completed my first land based 'dive safari' with Bali Dive Tours based in Amed,Bali. We did 4 dives a day for 6 days. There were no time limits on the dives and as the water was 28C+ we did a few dives of over 90 minutes.The diving is world class especially for macro and photography. But also the liberty wreck for big schools of fish and large fish.We paid 90 Euros a day for 4 dives.
We stayed in 3 different hotels all about 20 Euro for a double
with breakfast in the 3 different locations. The hotels were basic and as we dived so much it was just a place to sleep. We were offered higher standard places but we were there to dive from dawn to night so it seems a waste to get a more expensive place. Shore dives-no boat dives. It is possible to boat dive sites for drift dives, but we wanted photo dives. Free pick up and drop off, A/C transport and private dive guides great value.
My first time with a private guide. It is fantastic, especially for photographers or macro/muck divers. I have paid more on other trips to have 20 divers on the
boat and only 2 guides. Treat yourself to a 'safari' bali style."

"Tauch Terminal is a great place to stay and a well-run dive operations. I would recommend it without hesitation to other divers. You can dive the Liberty wreck right from the shore, as well as a splendid dropoff on the right-hand edge of the bay (as you look at the water). Tauch Terminal has pleasantly decorated rooms, good food, a nice pool and friendly staff. As usual in Asia, ask for a discount and see what happens!"

They planned the trip from pick up to drop off and the drivers they use are pleasant and friendly. This is one of the most enjoyable holidays I have had. Quiet, good food at a reasonably good price.
